i'm an action/shoot-'em-up fanboy but payday 2 is the first game to make me forget about that. i went into it thinking i'd have to deal with the repetitive mission design and the terrible difficulty (my first playthrough in particular), but i was wrong. it's gorgeous and totally engaging, and the heists are what keep me coming back. the level design is perfect, and the story is clever and hilarious.
as soon as you start a heist, you'll be greeted by a familiar-looking bank manager who you have to tie up with a zip-tie. after that, it's a matter of finding the items you need. in order to do this, you'll need to be able to find secret rooms behind closed doors, which can be accomplished by using either your lockpicking, or by searching the map for hidden doors. the former may be a bit tedious for some, and may not be worth it for beginners, but the latter is a good idea if you're the type to learn as you go.
if you are looking for an all-in-one portable fps with co-op, then this game is the right choice for you. the shooting is very solid and though the cover system is kind of annoying you can use it to your advantage. the heists are the best part of the game. they are well designed and you feel like you are actually part of the team. the only downside to the heists is the difficulty. they are not as hard as some other heists out there but they are not for the faint of heart. the controls are good and everything is very responsive. the game does not suffer from any frame rate drops and has a lot of polish.
